Follow The Seagulls – Isle of Wight 4th-5th April 2020

Well done to Andy who has once again signed up to walk 50 miles around the Isle of Wight to raise money for this special charity.

Andy’s story – “I’m walking to raise money for two causes very close to me, brainstrust – brain cancer and the Stroke Appeal. Unfortunately  a very close friend’s wife sadly and suddenly passed away in October last year from a massive blood clot. We are therefore walking to raise funds in Gina honour for the Stroke Appeal.”

Follow the Seagulls is the walk to beat brain cancer. It’s your chance to do something truly challenging to help 60,000 people in the UK who are afraid and alone because of their brain tumour diagnosis.

Cantilever first floor supported on a ‘Y’ frame – it’s a first for us but looks great..

Our frame is now complete on this exciting project in Shaldon, Devon. Tucked away from the road through the village, the views from this new home overlooking the Teign estuary are stunning.

Our frame is designed to broadly meet Passivhaus standards, hence the panelvent sheathing to the external face. The timber frame to the main 2 storey element is built around a pre-installed steel structure, creating an impressive cantilevered first floor.

We look froward to seeing the finished home but for a sneak preview click here to see the project details on Morton Scarr’s website.

Good luck to Niall (the one in the middle) in his next venture

After completing his Dietetics study in Hungary Niall has been working in our factory for the last 6 weeks, helping to ensure our frames have been delivered to program.

He is now off to study sport psychology in Adelaide, Australia for 6 months to complete his International study year, before returning to Keele university to finish his bachelors degree in Physiotherapy.

Once again, we wish him the best for the future, and just want to say that there is always a place next to the saw for him if he needs it!!

Bristol Student Accommodation at its highest standards!

While attending a meeting in Bristol last week we took the opportunity to visit one of previous projects. The student accommodation called William & Matthew House on Colston Street really does look impressive.

This was a challenging project in many ways – working around an existing historic building maintaining the front facade, with cranage and deliveries also requiring a lot of extra consideration.

I would love to see the view from the top but obviously access is now a bit of an issue!! We formed a flat roof to an unequal triangular building falling in 3 different directions. It’s the tricky ones that test us but in the end make it all worthwhile.

Celebrating 20 years in business!!

We are proud to be moving into our 20th year of business and couldn’t be more positive with what the future holds.

2019 was a busy year for us, with projects stretching across the South West from Gwithian in Cornwall to Horsham in West Sussex. Constructing a wide variety of timber frame structures from small extensions to large housing developments, Schools and Care homes.

Being based in Devon we are blessed with the opportunity to build some fantastic homes in what is a beautiful landscape. This year we are proud to of been involved in numerous local extensions, the change they make to an existing home makes you realise what a difference our humble timber frames can make.

Although we look forward to another 20 years in this ever-changing industry, we have also taken the opportunity to look back to where it all started. Below are some extracts from the Express & Echo in 1990, back then we were Oakmoor System with Terry Kingdon at the helm. Allwood grew out of this business in 1999.

Terry is still now a fountain of knowledge for us all but has weathered a little since these photos were taken!!

The sun is out at Exeter Quay

The finish to the roof terrace of the Chapel down at Exeter Quay looks great, nice to see a bit of sun shining as well

We’re looking forward to returning to site soon for the final push to erect the 2 houses, I’m sure the end results will be stunning

Seaton Beach apartments hit the big time!!

Seaton Beach apartments has now been recognised in the London Metro paper, it’s made it to the big city!! It’s always great to see a project you were involved in, and are so proud of being promoted with such high regard.

For those who would like a closer look, the Penthouse is open for an art exhibition on Friday 1st & 2nd February between 10am and 5pm.

Happy New Year!!

After a busy year we would like to take this opportunity to thank all who worked with us in 2019, we look forward to working with you again in 2020.

We wouldn’t be where we are now without the extended team that ensure our frames are supplied to the high standard we always aim to achieve. We wish you all a Happy New Year and looking forward to working together in 2020!

Newtown Community Centre

It was great to attend the grand opening of Newtown Community Centre in Exeter.

It’s always nice to be involved with community project buildings that have such an impact of those that use them. I think all agree that the end result that has encased our timber frame looks great, particularly in its position within the park.
