Last week was a very sociable affair from start to finish giving us the opportunity to speak with like-minded people within our industry. You will notice there is a reoccurring theme were we are tempted out of our office by food and drink but I assure you this is not the case!!

We started the week with a trip to our capital city for a thoroughly enjoyable lunch with Vida Wood at the 34 Mayfair Restaurant, always nice to put a few faces to names. It was a great turn out, with a broad spectrum of people from the timber frame industry. The food was great and the drinks kept flowing so I think it is safe to say everyone was happy.

We finished off with a local event, but were this time treated to breakfast at Ashford’s offices in Exeter for a Construction Excellence South West event. As my first attendance at a CE event, it was pleasing to see the enthusiasm from the speakers for growth in the South West. You could not help but be enthused by the positive vibe within the room between attendees from various different disciplines.

As a company celebrating 20 years within the industry we have been promoting the benefits of timber frame for some time. I was pleased to see a recent article from Södra Wood Ltd high lighting some of these very valid benefits, click here to read.

In an ever changing industry it is great to see these sort of articles produced by not only us as designers/manufacturers/erectors, but by our suppliers.

Our timber frame forming the 4th floor penthouse at Seaton Beach front is nearly completed and we couldn’t be happier with the results. To see the roof structure before it is boarded really makes you appreciate the work involved. Each rafter was pre-cut and detailed in our factory and delivered to site to form the impressive curved roof profile.

Working with the design team to create a frame to suit passive requirements is always satisfying, each junction and material specification is taken into account.

Having completed the timber frame for St Peters Hospice, Bristol in 2018, its great to see the external photos which look fantastic.

Our timber frame structure forming the full height vaulted corridors was impressive to see. Now finished, the internal lining looks great.

Graham Bizley of Prewett Bizley Architects he has kindly given Allwood access to photos taken of the home that we helped to construct for him in Somerset.

Graham had the enviable task of being able to not only design this building, but live in the end result as his family home. Although the pressure of designing your own home comes with its own challenges, I’m sure all will agree the finished home is stunning.

Recently visited St. Michaels Hotel, Falmouth to check on progress of the first phase of the redevelopment of the existing site.

On the last visit to this project I was stood on tip toes in the empty old jacuzzi, with a torch and a tape measure to determine the make-up of the existing steel structure to support our new frame above. I am please to say the now finished health club is a far cry from my previous experience!

Although our part of the overall redevelopment was purely the two storey extension over the existing swimming pool, it was great to see the finished result and take in the fantastic views.

Looking forward to visiting the Bath & West Self Build Show this weekend. We’re not exhibiting this year but always enjoy visiting to check out fresh ideas and talk to our local suppliers and designers. Maybe see you there……
